‎The Central Executive Committee of the Enugwu-Agidi Brotherly Union (EBU-Nigeria) has suspended its President General, Mr. Ebuka David Onuorah, with immediate effect.

‎Confiance News
gathered from a statement issued by its media team on Wednesday.

‎The dramatic decision, announced after an emergency meeting on November 20, follows what the CEC described as a long list of grave constitutional violations that include massive financial misconduct, abuse of office, collaboration in widespread land grabbing, desecration of the royal throne, and the use of armed thugs to intimidate and assault indigenes.

‎More than 40 top EBU leaders, including the Vice President-General and Secretary-General, signed the suspension letter, accusing Mr. Onuorah of running the Union like a personal empire with no regard for accountability, transparency, or the 2010 Constitution.

‎The committee claims the suspended leader has refused to render any financial account since assuming office nearly three years ago, fueling widespread allegations of large-scale embezzlement and fraud. He is further accused of never presenting a budget or written report of his stewardship to the Union’s highest decision-making bodies.

‎Even more explosive are the charges surrounding communal land. The suspension notice states that Mr. Onuorah actively aided both insiders and outsiders in illegally seizing Enugwu-Agidi ancestral lands, including allegedly conspiring to hand over portions of the community’s territory to Ozo Jeff Nweke of Ezinano Awka, who then renamed the seized property as part of Awka town. The document accuses him of accepting bribes while unlawfully interfering in land matters that fall under the jurisdiction of the Council of Elders.

‎The leadership crisis reached boiling point with claims that Mr. Onuorah stormed the palace of HRM Igwe M. C. Okekeuche, Okpalariam III, accompanied by thugs, in an attempt to humiliate and dethrone the traditional ruler. He is also accused of illegally suspending and publicly shaming Ichie Sir (Dr.) Osita Anameze, the revered Onowu of Enugwu-Agidi—an action that drew an official reprimand from the Anambra State Commissioner for Local Government, Town Unions and Chieftaincy Matters.

‎Residents say they have lived in fear as armed thugs allegedly hired by the suspended President General have been used to lock out delegates from meetings, harass innocent citizens, and create an atmosphere of intimidation.

‎The final straw appeared to be Mr. Onuorah’s unilateral decision to abruptly change the date of the Union’s 2025 December General Conference and Election from its traditional last week of December to an earlier date in the same month, without consulting the National Executive Committee—an action branded as an unprecedented power grab.

‎In the wake of the suspension, the CEC has appointed a five-member Adhoc Disciplinary Committee chaired by Hon. Gozie Aniesona to thoroughly investigate every allegation. Ozo Darlington Kenechukwu Okoye, the Vice President-General, has taken over immediately as Acting President-General.

‎Mr. Onuorah has been given 72 hours to surrender all Union property in his possession and has been summoned to appear before the disciplinary panel to answer the charges against him.

‎Confiance News learnt that Enugwu-Agidi remains on edge as the community awaits the outcome of the investigation into what many now call three years of controversial and divisive leadership.
