• ‎Nigeria’s investment-grade rating target for 2030 now rests on four pillars, according to the Minister of State for Budget and Economic Planning.

• ‎Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite says a better sovereign credit rating must be the outcome of reform, not the goal itself.

• ‎The pillars are fiscal health, debt sustainability, diversification and credible institutions.

‎Four pillars set the roadmap
‎

‎Nigeria’s push for an investment-grade sovereign credit rating by 2030 will depend on four connected pillars, Confiance News has learned. The Minister of State for Budget and Economic Planning, Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, outlined them in a keynote address at the 2026 International Credit Rating Webinar on October 8, 2026.
‎
‎According to the address, sighted by Confiance News, the pillars are fiscal health and domestic revenue mobilisation, debt sustainability, economic diversification and productivity, and institutional strengthening and policy credibility.
‎
‎Rating is an outcome, not the goal
‎
‎Notably, the minister cautioned against treating the rating as a trophy. She said investment grade should come from stronger fundamentals, sustainable public finances, improved debt dynamics, rising productivity, stronger external buffers and credible institutions.
‎
‎”The fundamental question,” she said in the document, is how Nigeria can build an economy that sustains investor confidence and delivers inclusive prosperity.
‎
‎Reforms and data credibility
‎
‎Furthermore, she linked the rating ambition to reforms pursued since 2023. These include petrol subsidy removal, foreign exchange market changes, public financial management and revenue mobilisation. Four major tax laws were also enacted in 2025.
‎
‎On data, the address confirmed that the Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning is institutionalising a National Macroeconomic Dashboard. A Macroeconomic Assumptions Standing Committee has also been constituted to report to the Economic Management Team.
‎
‎What investors can watch
‎
‎In addition, the minister said the credibility of the National Development Plan 2026-2030 will depend on execution, not projections alone. Regular reporting and transparent monitoring, she noted, will let investors and development partners track progress.
‎
‎The webinar was organised by DataPro Limited.
