• ‎Credit rating is no longer a passive risk measure but a driver of economic change, DataPro’s founder says.
‎
• ‎Sovereign ratings shape investment flows, borrowing costs and how well African markets fund infrastructure.
‎
• ‎The message came at the 6th International Credit Rating Webinar, themed around transformation.
‎
‎The founder of DataPro Limited, Mr. Abimbola Adeseyoju, has declared that credit rating has moved beyond its traditional role as a passive measure of risk and is now a catalyst for economic transformation.
‎
‎Adeseyoju made the case in his opening remarks at the 6th International Credit Rating Webinar on Thursday, 8th October 2026, according to a copy sighted by Confiance News. The event ran under the theme “Credit rating as a catalyst for economic transformation”.
‎
‎Why sovereign ratings matter
‎

‎According to the address, sovereign credit ratings serve as a primary gateway to international capital markets. Moreover, they dictate the flow of investment, influence the cost of funds and determine how effectively markets can finance infrastructure, industrialization and sustainable growth.
‎
‎He described the present moment as a pivotal era for Africa. Across the continent, he noted, nations are undergoing profound structural economic shifts. As a result, the push to attract long-term patient capital, reduce borrowing costs and build shock-resilient economies has changed. It is no longer a strategic ambition. It is now an urgent necessity.
‎
‎A high-level gathering
‎
‎The webinar, which Confiance News learnt is DataPro’s annual flagship event, drew a keynote speaker, Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, Minister of State for Budget and Economic Planning. Others acknowledged in the address include Dr. Emomotimi Agama, Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission, and Prince Adeyemi Adeniran, the Statistician-General of the Federation and CEO of the National Bureau of Statistics.
‎
‎Participants also included diplomats, capital market operators, development finance institutions and corporate leaders, who joined live from across the globe.
‎
‎Looking ahead
‎
‎DataPro said its commitment is to provide transparent, actionable and credible market intelligence that bridges the gap between capital seekers and investors. The firm, which is celebrating over 30 years in business, added that participants on YouTube, LinkedIn and its virtual platform were encouraged to engage actively.
