History Today: Nigerians remember Chukwuemeka Ojukwu for his gallantry

Some Nigerians have taken to social media to pen their tributes to leader of the breakaway Republic of Biafra- Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu in commemoration of his death that took place Nine years ago today in a hospital in London.

For Fabbyjnr, a Twitter user, Ojukwu will always be remembered for his bravery.

“Never to forget…. A brave man.. Keep resting in power C.O. Ojukwu,” he tweeted.

Another Twitter user known as Obi is still hopeful that the Republic of Biafra will soon become a reality.

He said, “We do not ask for pity. We make no apologies for the social phenomenon known as the Biafran revolution; rather, we proclaim with pride the inevitability of our struggle, the indestructability of our people, and the assured finality of our success. Ikemba, rest in power.”

Jonel also added his voice, “Keep resting legend you will remain ever green in the history of life.”

Ojukwu was also a Nigerian military officer and politician who served as the military governor of the Eastern Region of Nigeria in 1966 and the leader of the Republic of Biafra from 1967 to 1970. He was active as a politician from 1983 to 2011, when he died aged 78.
