On April 1, 2025, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan demonstrated her leadership prowess in a way that captured national attention. Facing a ban on rallies and public gatherings imposed by Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo—citing security concerns—she refused to cancel her planned homecoming event in Ihima, Okehi Local Government Area.
The ban, announced less than 24 hours before her Sallah celebration with constituents, was widely seen as an attempt to stifle her influence amid a contentious recall process and her suspension from the Senate.
Undeterred, Akpoti-Uduaghan arrived at the rally in a white helicopter, bypassing roadblocks manned by armed security forces. The dramatic entrance electrified the thousands of supporters who had gathered since morning, defying a local curfew and police warnings. Addressing the crowd in her native Ebira language, she declared, “Nobody and nothing can stop me from coming home. I’m an Ebira woman; this is my land. I’m the daughter of the late Jimoh Abdul Akpoti. I know my roots; I’m not a bastard, and I’m not afraid of anybody.” Her words, shared widely on social media, underscored her defiance and deep connection to her people.
Reacting to her homecoming, former Chairman of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Chidi Odinkalu, said: “In Kogi State, the criminal conspiracy of @Senator_Akpabio & @OfficialGYBKogi has run into an irrepressible problem. The name of that problem is @NatashaAkpoti. This woman won an election without rigging, something that neither Akpabio nor Yahaya Bello can do. You see….!”
