The founder of Silverbird Group and Senator representing Bayelsa East Constituency in Bayelsa State, Ben Murray-Bruce has condemned the plight of Nigerian soldiers on the Boko Haram operation.

Murray-Bruce tweeted on his Twitter handle- @benmurraybruce on Monday.

He said,”The claim by the Nigerian Army that this video was shot in 2014 is not true. This is easily verifiable. Check through @Google and @YouTube. This is a new video. The claims by these soldiers must be investigated and not denied.”

The video, which was originally tweeted by Reno Omokri, who claims to be the best selling author of facts versus fiction on his Twitter handle- @renoomokri, showed some Nigerian soldiers on the operation against boko haram insurgence in the northeastern part of the country lamenting over the inability of the Nigerian government to equip them with adequate arms that could match that of the extremist.

“Omo! many men done fall. I’m going home. If army is ready and Nigeria is ready, they should call us back to fight those idiots. But we don’t have enough weapons to fight them. We can’t just be wasting our lives. We have families but without weapons, we are not soldiers,” a soldier on the operation lamented in the video.

“Weapons make us to be a soldier. Let them provide the weapons, then we will fight the idiots out. It is not that they will give me this (touching the gun hanging across his shoulder) and they will come with something three times more than this. …so we just have to go. Let us go and do the New Year with our families. When the army is ready, they’ll call us back,” he continued.

Boko Haram, until March 2015, is a jihadist militant organization based in northeastern Nigeria, also active in Chad, Niger and northern Cameroon.

The Jihadist militant organization, which has also assumed an insurgent status, has wrecked so much havoc in Nigeria in its nearly 10 years of existence and has turned the northeastern part of Nigeria into one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises, with the toll of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) increasing by the day.
