Nigeria’s apex monetary authority, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has reacted to the news making the rounds that its governor, Godwin Emefiele, absconded from office to dodge arrest by the Department of State Services (DSS).

Confiance News gathered from a statement signed by the Director, Corporate Communications, Osita Nwanisobi, on Monday.

He said,”The Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria has resumed duty after his annual vacation abroad. Mr Emefiele, who proceeded to leave in December 2022, resumed work today, Monday, January 16, 2022.”

On their part, the DSS in a statement refuted the claims of any attempt to arrest Emefiele.

“The attention of the Department of State Services (DSS) has been drawn to the false news making the round that its operatives invaded the Central Bank of Nigeria and arrested its Governor, today 16/1/23. This is fake news and quite misleading,” it argued.

Confiance News recalls that the CBN governor is being dragged for alleged financing of corruption and terrorism.
