Controversy over Trump’s speech on granting “Green Card” to immigrants who graduate from U.S schools

Some users of LinkedIn, the world’s largest professional network on the internet, have reacted to the United State’s (U.S’s) President’s election speech on granting Green Card to immigrants who graduated from high schools and colleges in the U.S.

Confiance News gathered from a the official LinkedIn handle of Content writer and story teller, Mayowa J Michael, on Saturday.

The reaction followed a video where Trump stated that he would grant “Green Cards” to foreign students who graduate from educational institutions in the U.S.

He said: “What I want to do and what I will do is if you graduate from college. I think you should get, automatically, a Green Card, to be able to stay in this country and that includes junior colleges too. …I know of stories where people graduate from a top college and they desperately wanted to stay here for a company or concept, and they can’t. They go back to India, to China. They do the same basic companies in those places and they become multi-billionaires and employ thousands and thousands of people and could have been done here.”

The video sparked reactions.

Chief Consultant at Resani Consulting, Rebecca Sani, was the first to react, she revealed that despite acquiring her three Degrees in the US, she could not start her form because of the rigours of getting her “papers”. Instead, she returned home in Malawi and set up her own company.

“So I returned home and have done that. Provided I didn’t employed millions of people but I have a team and I have and continue to do my part in improving businesses in my home country,” she stated.

On his part, experienced UI/UX Designer, Arthur Sibanda, would rather return to his country to impact lives there than remain in the U.S.

He said: “Why stay in the US because you already have everything. Personally, I committed to returning to my country because the I believe the skills and expertise I have acquired will play a vital role in creating job opportunities and driving sustainable development across Africa.”

Development consultant, Catherine Kanabahitha Guma, reacting to Sibanda’s view said: “It is about creating more options which is a good thing.”

Chief Executive Officer at MangoAuctions.com, Aftab Ali, believes that policy is laudable.

He said,”Smart move. Absolute opposite of the UK strategy.
