European Union (EU) president, Ursula von der Leyen, has responded to the perceived threat to Finland’s security by Russia’s president, Vladimir Putin.

Confiance News gathered from a post made by Ursula von der Leyen on her X handle.

During her visit to Finland on Friday, she said, ”

Russia’s hybrid attacks are not just about Finland’s security. This is about the security of the entire EU.

This is why I was here today. To tell you that Europe stands by your side. For the security of the borders and to support the border regions.”

Continuing she said, “Europe should be more Finnish when it comes to security.

Dear @PetteriOrpo, thank you for inviting me here to Lappeenranta, close to the Russian border.

We have a lot to learn from your model of preparedness across all levels of society.”

In a video clip shared by an X user known as Sprinter Factory, Ursula von der Leyen, explains why Moscow is focusing its attention on Finland.

“Now Putin is now focusing his attention on Finland. This is undoubtedly a response to your firm support of Ukraine and your ascension to NATO,” she continued.

Corroborating, the Prime Minister of Finland, Petteri Orpo, said,”Thank you for visiting Finland and our eastern border, @vonderleyen! Maintaining a populated and thriving eastern Finland is vital for European security. Finland is committed to protecting the 🇪🇺 external border. We appreciate the robust support you and the Commission provide. 🇫🇮

Confiance News reports that the Finnish government has been closely monitoring Russia’s actions, especially since the invasion of Ukraine. This has led to a significant shift in Finland’s foreign policy, with the country joining the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) as a response to the perceived threat.

More so, the Finnish response is more accurately characterized by a strategic and measured approach to enhancing their security.
