Loyola Jesuit College has emerged winner of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) Secondary Schools Finance Competition (SSFC).
Confiance News gathered from ACCA at the grand finale of the competition held in Lagos on the 18th of November.
The competition was among three schools- Loyola Jesuit College, Trinitate International School, and Rainbow College, who made it to the finals.
Loyola Jesuit College had earlier competed with eight other schools in Abuja during the regional preliminaries on November 4 to emerge winner Abuja/North Region.
More so, Trinitate International School emerged regional Champion Port Harcourt/South South&South East Region out of the 10 schools that competed on November 4.
Also, Rainbow College beat eight other schools to emerge regional winner Lagos/South West region on November 4.
At the Grand finale, Loyola Jesuit College notched a total of 65 points from the first and second rounds of the competition, Trinitate International School was first runner up with 61 points and Rainbow College came third with 55 points.
The winner— Loyola Jesuit College went home with the highly contested prize of N2 million, Trinitate International School, which is the first runner up, went home with N1 million and Rainbow College, the second runner up, went home with N500,000.
Reacting to the event, the Country Head ACCA, Tom Isibor said,”We carried out a global talent survey and realized that there is a dearth of financial subjects. We knew that we needed to position our children to become leaders of tomorrow. We are making a commitment. We will follow your progress. We have a lot of platforms to support you in mentorship.”
On his part, the Accountant General of Lagos State, Abiodun Muritala, who is also a product of public schools urged ACCA to include public schools in subsequent competitions.
He said,”I want to say a big congratulations to ACCA. Coming up next year should be in the area of public schools. Please, bring them on board.”
