‎The fiery confrontation aboard an Ibom Air flight from Uyo to Lagos between passenger Comfort Emmanson and an air hostess  onn August 10, 2025, has escalated into a national controversy.

‎Confiance News reports from X on Tuesday

‎ A viral video, Confiance News gathered, showed Emmanson assaulting the hostess, reportedly after refusing to switch off her phone, leading to her arrest and remand in Kirikiri Maximum Prison. The incident, compounded by Emmanson’s public stripping during the scuffle, drew sharp reactions from prominent figures like Peter Obi and Aisha Yesufu, alongside polarized sentiments on X.

‎The altercation began over a routine request to comply with aviation safety protocols. Ibom Air stated Emmanson’s refusal turned violent, prompting security intervention. A video from Weddingplus Naija showed the hostess’ wig removed and her blocking Emmanson’s exit, hinting at mutual provocation. X user @King_Rico19 questioned, “What really happened before her outburst?” while @El_Nazor criticized the crew’s conduct, saying, “Stripping her was unbearable.” @Sire_Sammi urged better de-escalation training, and @DanielRegha noted both parties’ faults.

‎Peter Obi, former Labour Party presidential candidate, condemned Emmanson’s actions but decried her “dehumanising” treatment, highlighting double standards in Nigeria’s justice system. He contrasted her swift remand with the leniency shown to Fuji musician KWAM 1, who disrupted a ValueJet flight yet faced no arrest, stating, “Justice must be equal for all”. Aisha Yesufu, a renowned activist, questioned the legality of the hostess detaining Emmanson, asking, “Did the air hostess have the right to block her?” She also criticized the disparity, noting, “Comfort Emmanson was charged, but KWAM1 and Adams Oshiomhole walked free”.

‎The saga exposes systemic issues in aviation and justice, fueling calls for fairness and reform as investigations continue.
