God has the capabilities to shock you. God can amaze you.
Confiance News gathered from a sermon by renowned evangelist, Doris Hokett, on Sunday.
Ministering as a guest minister at the Solidrock Parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), she highlighted several ways in the bible that God shocked people.
Hockett said, “God can amaze you; he can shock you with an unexpected answer. In the book of 1 Kings 18:28, God shocked the people when Elijah called down fire from heaven. Elijah said: “Let the fire fall.” The fire burned up the sacrifice and even burned up the water all around it.
Continuing, she stated that in the book of Daniel 6:22, God sent an angel and he closed the mouth of the lions; God shocked that king.
Hokett also recounted the story Lazarus and how he was resurrected by Jesus Christ on the fourth in the book of John 11:44.
“My late husband would say, ‘Lazarus was the only one who had two funerals in that town’,” she said.
She noted that the bible is full of shocks.
Similarly, she explained the meaning of the acronym- SHOCK.
She said that the letter “S” represents See the problem but see the problem solver Jesus Christ. She read the book of Psalms 34:19 to buttress her point.
“Everybody has a problem. Problems are not permanent. They come and go. Every problem has an expiry. It could be today,” she explained.
The letter “H” in the word “shock” signifies “Have big faith”.
Citing the book of Hebrews 11:1 in the scriptures, Hokett said,”Big faith can move mountains. Big faith can bring a big miracle. You can speak out the word of God. I can do all things. All things are working for my good.”
“O” means “Overcome fear”.
Reading from Psalms 34:4, she said, “May you see the miracle of overcoming fear. May God deliver you from all your fears.”
“C stands for ‘Cry out to God’. Cry out to God, help is on the way. He can bless your business. He can shock you. He can answer prayers,” she said.
Hokett cited Jeremiah 33:3 to drive home her point.
The missionary highlighted the meaning of acronym “K”. She said,”Kick the devil out. He comes to steal, kill and destroy. One person plus God makes the majority.
Reading from the book of James 4:7, she noted that It’s often a difficult task to submit. “Sometimes, you want to go your own way,” Hokett says. She added that when you resist the devil, he will Flee from you.
“Flee means to run for your life; to run with terror in your heart,” she explained.
