#EndSARS, a hashtag that began trending on Twitter in 2017 by its convener, Segun Awosanya and his apologists due to the notorious nature of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), a tactical arm of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
The #EndSARS later gave birth to its second wave that was triggered by a viral video on social media, showing a SARS officer shooting a young motorist in Ughelli, in Delta state and later drove off with the dead man’s Lexus SUV after he had pushed his body out of the car.
This led to protests by Nigerians, mostly youths, in most parts of the country, that later became victims of shootings by some members of the NPF and the Nigerian Army.
Notable among the shootings is the massacre that occurred on the 20th of October 2020 at the Lekki toll gate, situated at the elitist suburb of Lagos State– Nigeria’s commercial nerve centre.
Although the Army and Police have denied involvement in the shootings, there have been evidence by multiple eyewitnesses, like Obianuju Udeh popularly popularly called DJ Switch, among other survivors debunking their claim.
Even a recent investigation which the Cable News Network (CNN) carried out on the incident showed the involvement of the Nigerian Army and the Police on the matter.
On Friday, November 20, marked one month of the deadly shooting; Nigerians, fans and loved ones took to Twitter to pour out their wishes and concerns.
