‎ The Christian world is in mourning following the death of Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, a towering figure in Nigerian Pentecostalism and international evangelism.

‎The 80-year-old preacher, founder and president of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association (UUEA), died on October 6, 2025, in Lagos, his family confirmed today via an emotional statement on his official Instagram page.

‎”With hearts full of gratitude, we celebrate the triumphant homecoming of Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, who passed on to glory on October 6, 2025, at the age of 80,” the family wrote in a post titled “Glorious Transition.” They described his life as one of profound impact, marked by “fiery evangelism, transformative teachings, and unwavering commitment to soul-winning.”

‎Born on January 7, 1945, in Asaga, Ohafia, Abia State, Ukpai overcame early hardships—including the loss of his father at age 10—to become a global spiritual leader. An Igbo native, he converted to Christianity in 1958 and pursued theological and journalistic studies in the UK and US, including at South Florida Christian College and Carolina Christian University.

‎Confiance News learnt that his non-denominational ministry, headquartered in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, spanned over six decades, drawing massive crowds to gospel crusades known for miracles, healings, and community empowerment.

‎As a founding leader of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Ukpai bridged denominational divides during the 1970s and 1980s revival. He established the Uma Ukpai Eye Centre and King of Kings Hospital in Abia State, blending evangelism with humanitarian aid through medical outreaches that served thousands across Abia, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River states.

‎Tributes poured in from leaders worldwide. PFN President Rev. Francis Ejiroghene-Asagba called him “a general who took a bow,” while former President Olusegun Obasanjo hailed his “enduring legacy of faith and service.” Social media buzzed with memories of his dynamic sermons, often laced with humor and prophecy.
