• A regional pastor in Lagos has told Christians that heaven is earned through daily conduct and character.
• Pastor Bola Odutola warned that the Christian race cannot be outsourced to anyone.
• He urged believers to stop treating repentance as a convenient safety net.
Pastor Bola Odutola, Regional Pastor of Region 68, Solidrock Parish, Ojodu, has told worshippers that making it to heaven is deliberate and demanding. He spoke during a Sunday service, according to a sermon witnessed by Confiance News.
Heaven requires intention
Drawing from Revelation 20:12 and 20:15, Odutola said there are books that document human deeds for trial, and then there is “the book.” He prayed that every worshipper would have a strong advocate on that day.
Furthermore, he compared the journey to a profession. Nobody becomes a medical doctor by mistake, he said, and nobody gets into heaven by accident either. Confiance News learned that he cited Luke 13:24 (TPT) to underline the cost involved.
Eternity starts now
According to notes obtained by Confiance News, the pastor stressed that eternity does not begin at death. Instead, it begins while a person is still alive. As a result, he said, daily routines will be tested.
He admitted that Christianity is not an easy religion. Often, a believer wants to act one way while the scriptures say no. Nevertheless, he insisted that believers will “pay for your seat in heaven with your conduct and character.”
No rewriting the Bible
Odutola also rejected the idea that the Bible can be adjusted to suit anyone. A time will never come, he said, when the Bible will be rewritten for convenience. Consequently, he urged Christians to abandon the “I will sin and then repent” mindset.
He added that anyone trying to circumvent scripture should remember that the brain doing so was made by God. He backed the point with Job 5:13.
A risky terrain
In addition, he described the Christian path as risky ground, where wise believers suspect an ambush everywhere. Citing 2 Peter 1:8-10, he said a Christian can be spiritually blind and must therefore be diligent.
He closed with prayers for grace, focus and momentum to reach heaven.
