SuperNews AI Confab ’25: Johnson Chukwu headlines with expert speakers

Mr. Johnson Chukwu, Managing Director/CEO of Cowry Asset Management Limited, will be the keynote speaker at the SuperNews Nigeria Artificial Intelligence (AI) Confab 2025, scheduled for Thursday, June 19, 2025, at 10 a.m. at the Oriental Hotel, 3 Lekki Road, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Confiance News learnt from a statement issued by the publisher, Ngozi Onyeakusi on Tuesday.

Chukwu will address the theme, “Power of AI: Enhancing Efficiency and Customer Satisfaction for Better Financial Services Experience.” Other notable speakers include Mrs. Adeolu Adewumi-Zer, Founder/CEO of ZER Consulting Africa; Mrs. Thaibat Adeniran, former Managing Director of Hilal Takaful Insurance Limited; Dr. Uju Ogubunka, National President of the Bank Customers Association of Nigeria (BCAN); and Mr. Ayokunle Olubunmi, Head of Financial Institutions Ratings at Augusto & Co.

Ngozi Onyeakusi, Publisher of SUPERNEWS Nigeria and the event’s convener, highlighted Chukwu’s selection due to his extensive expertise and deep understanding of the financial services sector and economy. Chukwu, the founder and chairman of Cowry Asset Management Limited, has a robust background in the Nigerian capital market. He was the pioneer General Manager/CEO of Guardian Express Trust Limited (now Spring Capital), a subsidiary of Guardian Express Bank Plc (now Spring Bank Plc). Before joining Cowry Asset Management full-time in October 2007, he served as Deputy General Manager and Group Executive, Operations at Spring Bank Plc from February 2006 to September 2007.

Chukwu holds a B.Sc. in Accounting (second class upper) from the University of Lagos, where he was a scholar, and an MBA from Lagos Business School (Pan African University). His career includes roles such as Deputy Financial Controller at Diamond Bank Plc (1997–2000) and five years at Intercontinental Bank Plc (1992–1997) in areas like Credit and Marketing (Trade Finance), Financial Control, Treasury Operations, and Branch Operations. He is a Fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and the Chartered Institute of Taxation. Chukwu has also attended prestigious international programs at IESE Business School (Barcelona, Spain) and Wharton Business School (Philadelphia, USA).

The event, chaired by Alhaji (Dr) Umaru Kwairanga, Group Chairman of the Nigerian Exchange Group, will bring together regulators, financial services stakeholders, ICT experts, informal sector participants, and small business owners. The confab will explore how AI is transforming financial services through automation, customer engagement, risk management, and fraud prevention. It aims to enhance participants’ understanding of AI’s role in delivering faster, cheaper, and more convenient banking, capital market, pension, and insurance services.
