Thugs attack journalists at Kogi Polls

Journalists assigned to Ayaingba in Kogi State to cover the ongoing 2019 elections have allegedly been attacked by thugs.

Confiance News gathered from a tweet by Socio – Economic Right And Accountability Project (SERAP) a nonprofit, nonpartisan, legal & advocacy organisation, on its twitter feed, @SERAPNigeria on Saturday.

The journalists are Sam Egwu of the Leadership newspaper & Sunday Omachi of Radio Kogi.

“Kogi polls: Thugs attack journalists at Ayaingba. Thugs suspected to belong to one of the political parties have allegedly attacked Sam Egwu of the Leadership newspaper & Sunday Omachi of Radio Kogi, reports News Agency of Nigeria,” SERAP tweeted.

Similarly, Confiance News further learnt from SERAP, which is also devoted to promoting transparency, accountability and respect for socio-economic rights in Nigeria, that more journalists were also attacked at Ayetoro in Kogi State.

SERAP tweets: “Journalists attacked in Ayetoro, car damaged. Punch Correspondent and journalists from The Nation (Tony Akowe), Splash FM and others trapped in the violence that ensued.”

Kogi State, under the leadership of its incumbent, Yahaya Bello of the All Progressive Congress (APC), has one of the highest unpaid salary rates among other states of the Federation.
