The rainy season could come with it’s cons. Your hair could be drenched in the rain unexpectedly.

Hence, caring for black natural hair during the rainy season is important because excessive moisture and humidity can lead to frizz, breakage, and other hair issues. Here are some tips to help you care for your black natural hair during this season:

Moisturize regularly: The rainy season can make your hair prone to dryness, so it’s essential to keep your hair moisturized. Use a water-based leave-in conditioner or moisturizing spray to hydrate your hair daily or as needed. Additionally, consider incorporating deep conditioning treatments into your hair care routine to provide extra moisture and nourishment.

Protective styles: Opt for protective styles that keep your ends tucked away. Braids, twists, buns, and updos are great options to protect your hair from excess moisture and minimize frizz. These styles also help to retain moisture and prevent tangling.

Seal in moisture: After moisturizing your hair, seal in the moisture with natural oils or butter. Apply a thin layer of oils such as jojoba oil, coconut oil, or shea butter to your hair to lock in the moisture and prevent it from getting frizzy in humid weather.

Avoid heat styling: Minimize the use of heat styling tools like flat irons and curling irons, as excessive heat can further dry out your hair. Instead, embrace your natural texture and opt for heatless hairstyles or use low-heat alternatives like flexi rods or curlformers to achieve curls or waves.

Air dry your hair: Your hair may get drenched in the rains, during the rainy season. This is because sometimes, the weather may not give adequate signals of an impending rain. However, if you are caught up in the rains, there is need to air dry or blow dry your hair to prevent unpleasant smell, especially for women wearing braids.

Use anti-humidity products: Look for hair products that are specifically designed to combat frizz and humidity. Anti-humidity serums, creams, or gels can help to control frizz and keep your hair looking sleek and defined despite the rainy weather.

Protect your hair at night: Invest in a satin or silk scarf or pillowcase to protect your hair while you sleep. These materials help retain moisture, reduce friction, and prevent breakage. Additionally, consider using a satin or silk bonnet or headwrap to keep your hair protected and maintain your style throughout the night.

Avoid over-washing: While it’s essential to keep your hair clean, avoid over-washing during the rainy season. Excessive shampooing can strip away natural oils and cause dryness. Instead, opt for co-washing (using conditioner to cleanse your hair) or extend the time between washes to help retain moisture.

Umbrella or head covering: Protect your hair from direct rain by using an umbrella or wearing a hat or head covering. This can help minimize exposure to moisture and reduce the chances of frizz and damage caused by rainwater.

Regular maintenance: Trim your ends regularly to get rid of split ends and prevent breakage. Additionally, keep up with your regular hair care routine, including gentle detangling, finger combing, and scalp massages to promote healthy hair growth.

Remember, every person’s hair is unique, so it’s important to understand what works best for your hair type and adjust your hair care routine accordingly. Experiment with different products and techniques to find what works best for you and embrace the beauty of your natural hair during the rainy season.
