An X user named Juba, has reacted to the press statement issued by Nigeria’s anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday.

Confiance News gathered that EFCC took to its official X handle and posted a statement warning promoters against embarking on a protest against the Commission.

Excerpts of the statement signed by its Head, Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale sighted by Confiance News reads: ‘The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, wishes to alert the general public on the plan by a shadowy group to instigate a “protest” against the Commission.

‘In the last couple of days, the group has been actively campaigning in the social media, recruiting impressionable young Nigerians, including students to take up “arms” against the EFCC.

‘This insidious campaign is being promoted as resistance to the operational activities of the Commission especially in respect of the enforcement of the laws dealing with cybercrimes.’

Juba said:”The EFCC needs a reminder that its role is to investigate financial crimes, not to maintain law and order.”

Corroborating, another X user, Queen Bee said: “You should be ready to engage the people if they are dissatisfied about the activities of your personnel and not come here crying wolf.

When has it become the Roles and Responsibility of the EFCC to discourage, warn or crackdown on peaceful protesters?”

However, another X user known as Valar Morghulis who appears to be on the side of EFCC said:”Only if it’s going to be peaceful cos the youths of this country has proven that they cannot stage a peaceful protest. Everything na gra gra.”
