Publisher of Sahara Reporters and the Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (ACC) party appears to be christened a new name— “self-proclaimed blackmailer-in-chief”

Confiance News reports on Thursday.

This is due to allegations of blackmail linked to his role as the publisher of Sahara Reporters, an online news platform known for its investigative reporting. The current discussion stems from a public dispute with Peter Obi, a former Nigerian presidential candidate.

On May 22, 2025, Confiance News gathered, that Obi called Sowore a “blackmailer” and “self-proclaimed blackmailer-in-chief” in response to a Sahara Reporters story claiming Obi met with President Bola Tinubu to plead on behalf of Fidelity Bank regarding a supposed ₦225 billion debt crisis. Obi denied the allegations, stating he never sought a private meeting with Tinubu and only briefly greeted him at a Vatican event. This exchange has fueled posts on X accusing Sowore of using Sahara Reporters to blackmail individuals for political motives.

Additionally, historical allegations of blackmail against Sowore are being resurfaced. For instance, Reno Omokri, in 2020, claimed Sowore falsely accused him of armed robbery in 2015 to undermine then-President Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign, supported by evidence like Aso Rock logs and affidavits. Other X posts reference similar accusations, including claims Sowore targeted Seyi Tinubu, son of President Tinubu, suggesting a pattern of using his platform to attack prominent figures.

Confiance News learnt that these discussions are amplified by Sowore’s controversial reputation, with some users defending his activism while others criticize his methods as extortionate. The lack of concrete evidence in many claims keeps the debate speculative, but the high-profile nature of the individuals involved drives the trending topic.
