‎‎The Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer (MD/CEO) of Nestlé Nigeria, Wassim Elhusseini, has reiterated the need for journalists to work closely with key players in the nutrition and sustainability sectors to address pressing societal challenges.

‎The CEO told Confiance News at the close of the 2025 Advancing Nutrition, Health, and Environmental Awareness Through the Media Programme held in Lagos on Friday.

‎He said: “Collaboration is not optional — it is essential. The challenges we face today — from food insecurity to climate change to preventable diseases — do not operate in silos. And neither can we. Our strength lies in our ability to collaborate across sectors, across disciplines, and yes, across the newsroom and the boardroom.”

‎While acknowledging the role of journalists as builders of public trust, he emphasized the power of context in journalism, noting that linking data to real human experiences can mobilize action and influence mindsets.

‎Elhusseini encouraged journalists to demand accurate data and provide context to illuminate issues like malnutrition and environmental degradation. He also welcomed scrutiny, stating, “Constructive criticism sharpens impact,” and reaffirmed Nestlé’s commitment to transparency and accountability.

‎Reflecting Nestlé’s Creating Shared Value (CSV) principle, Elhusseini stressed that progress must be inclusive to be meaningful. “Stories have the power to democratize information,” he said, urging journalists to continue connecting nutrition, health, and environmental narratives.

‎Launched in 2018, the programme aims to equip media professionals with tools to promote sustainable change.

‎The event, supported by the LBS Sustainability Centre, featured facilitators and guest speakers who enriched the training. Elhusseini thanked participants for their engagement and reaffirmed Nestlé’s open-door policy for continued collaboration.

‎“Our data remains available, and our commitment to partnership remains strong,” he concluded, encouraging journalists to sustain the momentum in shaping a healthier, more resilient society.
