‎ Peter Obi, former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, has celebrated Nigeria’s Super Eagles’ 1-0 victory against Rwanda in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Saturday.

‎Taking to X, Confiance News gathered that Obi praised the team’s resilience, stating, “Congratulations to our dear Super Eagles for their victory… their determination is a testament to the unyielding Nigerian spirit.”

‎The Super Eagles faced a tough Rwandan defense, dominating possession but struggling to score. The match took a worrying turn when Victor Osimhen exited with an injury in the 34th minute. However, substitute Tolu Arokodare turned the tide, scoring in the 51st minute by volleying a rebound from Moses Simon’s shot. Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali and defender Calvin Bassey ensured a clean sheet, thwarting Rwanda’s late efforts.

‎Obi’s X post reflects his consistent support for Nigerian sports as a unifying force, echoing his tributes to football legends like Peter Rufai. The win propelled Nigeria to third in Group C with 10 points, keeping their 2026 World Cup dreams alive ahead of a critical match against South Africa on September 9. A potential FIFA ruling on South Africa’s alleged use of an ineligible player could further boost Nigeria’s chances.

‎Confiance News further gathered that fans on X mirrored Obi’s enthusiasm, though many expressed concern over Osimhen’s injury. Coach Augustine Eguavoen lauded the team’s grit, saying, “It wasn’t pretty, but we got the points we needed.” Obi’s words inspire national pride, urging Nigerians to back the Super Eagles as they aim for the global stage in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
