Seplat Energy PLC, a leading independent energy firm dual-listed on the Nigerian Exchange and London Stock Exchange, has earned the prestigious ISO 45001:2018 certification for occupational health and safety management systems, underscoring its commitment to operational excellence and employee wellbeing.
The certification was formally presented to Seplat Energy at its Lagos headquarters by representatives of Bureau Veritas (VS), an international certification body.
In a statement issued by Stanley Opara, Manager of Corporate Communications at Seplat Energy, the company described its certification journey as one rooted in collaboration, dedication, and ongoing enhancement. This included gap assessments, the rollout of stringent controls, and active employee involvement—all aligned with creating a safer and healthier work environment.
The ISO 45001:2018 standard strengthens operational resilience, mitigates risks, and upholds Seplat’s responsibility toward its workforce. It also enhances the company’s competitive edge, signaling to investors and partners its operations are grounded in integrity and high standards. The achievement serves as a platform for ongoing safety advancements rather than a final goal.
Roger Brown, Chief Executive Officer of Seplat Energy, hailed the milestone: “Achieving the ISO 45001:2018 certification marks a significant milestone in our journey towards operational excellence and employee wellbeing. It reflects our unwavering commitment to creating a safe, healthy, and resilient workplace.

Samson Ezugworie, Chief Operating Officer, added: “This certification is a testament to the dedication and discipline of our teams across all levels. We have always taken proactive steps to manage risks, enhance safety performance, and foster a culture of continuous improvement.

Adenike Akinbote, Certification Manager at Bureau Veritas (VS) Nigeria, praised Seplat’s efforts: “We commend the unwavering commitment of Seplat’s leadership in driving the implementation of ISO standards and successfully steering the organization toward certification.
”Throughout the audit process, the professionalism, receptiveness, and openness demonstrated by both the leadership and employees of Seplat were truly commendable. We were particularly impressed by the level of implementation achieved during this initial certification phase.”
Adeshina Sadiq, General Manager of Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) at Seplat Energy, expressed pride in the team: “Achieving the ISO 45001:2018 certification is a proud moment for all Seplat employees as Health, Safety, and Environment stewardship is a shared responsibility. It reflects the strategic integration of safety into all our operations and the relentless efforts of our teams to always uphold the highest standards.
”This milestone is not just a certification—it’s a validation of our systems, our people, and our culture of care. We will continue to strengthen our safety framework and empower every employee to be a champion of workplace wellbeing.”
