The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has said that it has impounded tomato pastes and sardines with fake NAFDAC numbers.

Confiance News gathered from the Acting Director General (DG) of NAFDAC, Dr. Monica Eimunjeze on Wednesday.

Speaking during the media sensitisation workshop on “dangers of bleaching creams and regulatory control”, the Acting DG disclosed that the tomato pastes and sardines were impounded on Tuesday at a warehouse situated in Lagos.

“As I said, investigation is ongoing. Suffice it to say that we cannot speak for the quality of these products.  The consuming public is advised to cease and desist from using any of these products here,” she warned.

She added that some of the impounded items do not have NAFDAC numbers on them.

Royal IV, Ricci, 1st Choice, Lena, St. Annes, Royal Tesmen, La Bon, Mr 2, Estus, and Mumrite are some of the impounded products.

Confiance News recalls that the confistication of these products is in line with NAFDAC’s mission which is, “To protect and promote the public health by instituting an effective and efficient regulatory system that ensures only the right quality Food, Drugs and other regulated products are manufactured, exported, imported, advertised, distributed, sold, and used.”
