Dr. Peter Atangwho, aka First Doctor on Twitter has explained how couples who want to bear male or female children (sex selection) can achieve that.

In a tweet on his official Twitter handle sighted by Confiance News on Thursday, Dr. Atangwho stated that male sperm cells are either X or Y and female egg cell is always X.

“If X-Sperm cell meets the egg (X), baby will be Girl (XX). If Y-Sperm cell meets the egg (X), baby will be Boy (XY). You can select the sex of your baby,” he added.

He noted that X-Sperm cells move slowly but survive longer (up to three to four days) whilst Y-Sperm cells move faster but also die faster (lifespan about 24 hrs).

“So if you have sex some days before ovulation, most of the Y-Sperm cells would have died, leaving mostly X-Sperm cells to fertilize the egg,” he pointed.

How to calculate your ovulation
According to Your Fertility, a website that offers the facts about fertility, ovulation is when a mature egg is released from the ovary. The egg then moves down the fallopian tube where it can be fertilised.

“Here’s a simple way to calculate your ovulation period. If you have a 28-day cycle,” he said.

“From the first day you see the blood of your period, pick up a calendar and count 15 days forward (including the first day of the blood stain); Mark the 15th day with a pen; Mark three days before the 15th day; Mark three days after the 15th day.

“You will see you have seven days marked in all, which are your ovulation period, fertile days or “unsafe period”.

“‘Unsafe’ because if you have sex on any of these days, you have 98 percent chances of getting pregnant. Do this every month diligently,” disclosed.
