Nigeria’s largest telecom operator kept its grip on investor attention, posting nearly N7.4 billion in trading value in a single week

‎According to figures confirmed by Confiance News, MTN Nigeria Communications Plc recorded 16,597 deals worth N7.39 billion during the period under review, with the stock trading at N774.00 per share on the NGX Premium Board.

‎The performance placed MTN Nigeria among the most actively traded stocks on the exchange, trailing only the banking and oil and gas majors in overall turnover value.

‎Elsewhere on the ICT board, Chams Holding Company Plc led activity on the Main Board with 81.2 million shares traded worth over N320 million, while CWG Plc and Airtel Africa also featured prominently in the week’s telecom and technology trading data.

What it means for investors

‎MTN Nigeria’s consistently high deal count reflects its status as a retail investor favorite, offering liquidity and relative price stability compared to more volatile sectors.

What it means for the economy

‎Strong telecom sector trading tracks the industry’s expanding role in financial inclusion, mobile money, and digital infrastructure, areas the government has flagged as priorities for non-oil growth. Continued investor appetite for telecom equities also signals confidence in Nigeria’s data consumption growth and the sector’s ability to weather currency and regulatory pressures better than more import-dependent industries.
