‎Nigeria LNG Limited’s Train 7 Project has crossed the 90 per cent completion mark, a milestone President Bola Ahmed Tinubu says will be critical to the country’s drive to build a stronger gas economy.

‎Confiance News gathered that the President made the remarks on Thursday when he received an NLNG delegation at the State House, Abuja, led by the company’s newly appointed Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Adeleye Falade.

‎Tinubu: Train 7 to boost exports, jobs
‎
‎According to the President, Train 7’s completion will help expand exports, create jobs, deepen local capacity and reinforce investor confidence in Nigeria’s gas sector.
‎
‎It was learned that the delegation briefed the President on the status of the project and prospects for further expansion, alongside broader issues affecting NLNG’s operations, including LPG pricing and accessibility, trucking through the Bonny-Bodo Road corridor, the company’s contribution to public revenue, and the need for a more enabling business environment.
‎
‎Tinubu congratulated Falade on his new appointment, noting that he was stepping into the role at a defining moment for both the company and the nation’s gas ambitions.

‎”I congratulate you, Leye, on your appointment. Train 7 is at the centre of our national gas agenda. Its success matters not only to NLNG, but to Nigeria’s economic future,” the President said.

‎President commends Train 7 progress
‎
‎Confiance News confirmed that the President described the project as a benchmark for delivery, partnership, Nigerian Content development and investor confidence, while assuring NLNG that the Federal Government would continue improving the business environment and removing bottlenecks to major oil and gas investments.

‎”Nigeria is open for business, but it must be business that creates value at home, building capacity, supporting communities, protecting the environment and contributing to national prosperity. NLNG must continue to lead by example,” Tinubu added.

‎Falade pledges safe project delivery
‎
‎In his response, Falade thanked the President for his administration’s support and reaffirmed NLNG’s commitment to the safe and successful completion of the project.
‎
‎”Your Excellency, we appreciate your administration’s support for NLNG and for the wider gas sector. Train 7 is a strategic national undertaking. With the project now over 90 per cent complete, our immediate priority is to deliver the remaining work safely, efficiently and to the required quality, while preparing the plant for reliable and sustainable operations,” Falade said.

‎It was obtained that the NLNG boss described the project as one that would expand the country’s LNG production capacity, support export growth, create opportunities for Nigerian workers and businesses, and generate greater long-term value from the nation’s gas resources.

NLNG seeks coordinated action on LPG
‎
‎On the domestic gas market, Falade restated NLNG’s commitment to improving access to cleaner cooking fuel for Nigerian households and businesses.
‎
‎Confiance News sighted that he called for coordinated action among the Federal Government, regulators and industry operators to expand supply, upgrade storage and distribution infrastructure, eliminate avoidable costs and build a more transparent, efficient LPG market.

‎”Improving LPG accessibility is important to Nigeria’s energy transition and to the wellbeing of millions of Nigerian households. NLNG remains committed to supporting the domestic market, but improving affordability requires coordinated action across the entire LPG value chain,” he said.

‎Falade decries multiple taxation burden
‎
‎The NLNG chief also appealed for the President’s support in tackling ease-of-doing-business challenges, particularly the proliferation of taxes, levies and regulatory demands from different tiers of government.
‎
‎It was gathered that he warned multiple and sometimes conflicting fiscal and regulatory obligations were driving up operating costs, creating uncertainty, and posing barriers to both existing operations and future investment.
‎
‎Falade assured the President that NLNG was ready to align more closely with the administration’s development agenda and explore fresh partnership opportunities with the Federal Government.

‎The meeting ended with both sides committing to sustain momentum on Train 7 as the project enters its final stretch, and to deepen collaboration around NLNG’s broader contribution to Nigeria’s gas development and economic growth.
