The Lagos State Government has again announced that there will be a total closure of the Adekunle to Adeniji section of the bridge from midnight of Friday, 30th October to Sunday, 1st November 2020, in continuation of the rehabilitation work on the Third Mainland Bridge.

According to a statement issued by the Honourable Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde, the second phase closure of the corridor for repair work is coming two weeks behind schedule as a result of delays occasioned by the recent disturbance across the Lagos metropolis.

He added that it is, however, necessary to have it urgently done in order to prevent vibrations on the bridge during the casting of the newly installed expansion joints, which in turn will allow the special concrete achieve its required compressive strength.

Oladeinde had earlier explained that the casting of the expansion joints will be in two phases due to the high number that will be cast and to effectively manage the attendant traffic, hence, the repair work is slated for the weekend to minimise inconveniences that may arise from total closure.

Appreciating the patience exhibited by Lagosians since the commencement of the project, Oladeinde hinted that the previous alternative routes remain the same for road users to utilise during the closure period, while LASTMA and other Traffic Management Agencies will be available to direct traffic for free vehicular movement.

The State Transport Commissioner also assured that the section of the bridge between Adekunle and Iyana-Oworo will remain open, as well as Ebute-Metta outbound section into Iyana-Oworo, appealing to residents, especially motorists plying the axis, to support the State government’s efforts to achieve the January 2021 deadline for completion of the project.
