…as new policy takes effect December 1, 2023

Google is deleting inactive Gmail accounts as part of its new policy to prevent security risks and free up storage space.

Confiance News gathered that Google defines an inactive account as one that has not been used within a 2-year period across any Google products, such as Gmail, YouTube, or Google Drive.

“Google also reserves the right to delete data in a product if the user is inactive in that product for at least two years,” the policy disclosed.

Confiance News further learns that Google will start deleting inactive accounts on December 1, 2023, but it will send multiple warning notifications to the affected users before that date.

“Users can save their accounts by simply logging in or using any Google service at least once every two years. There are some exceptions to this policy, such as accounts that have made a purchase of a Google product or service, have a gift card balance, own a published app or game, or manage a minor account with Family Link,” the tech giant explained.
