Faces, Glitz at United States’ 248th Independence Day celebration

The Independence Day of the United States of America (USA) which is also known as Fourth of July, was first celebrated on July 4, 1776, after the Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence, a historic document drafted by Thomas Jefferson who later became the third president of America in 1801.

 

In commemoration of the epic event, the United States Mission in Nigeria, invited eminent personalities from far and near to the occasion.

Reacting to the event, the United States President, Joe Biden said: “Year after year, we’ve come together today to celebrate freedom, liberty, and independence.”

 

“Happy Independence Day, America! May God bless you all. And may God protect our troops,” he continued.

 

On his part, the Lagos State governor, Sanwo-Olu said: “I attended the 248th US Independence Day Celebration at the residence of the US Consul General in Lagos.

“America is one of the largest democracies in the world and Nigeria is the largest democracy in Africa; this speaks to why we need to collaborate effectively.

 

“The US Consulate have supported our administration in various ways especially in the creative and tech sector.

 

“It is a pleasure to celebrate with them as they commemorate the Declaration of Independence.”
