Not resting on its laurels, the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) is funding the education of another 42 children through the N2.1 raised from its Green Canopy Project.
Confiance News gathered from the association on Saturday.
Head ACCA Nigeria, Tom Isibor, disclosed that under the Green Canopy Project, the association is planting 100 trees which is auctioned and the proceeds used for financing the education of the children for one year.
He added that the N2.1 million is handed to the officials of Slum2School to facilitate the education of the children.
Confiance News recalls that in october 2021, the association’s women network (ACCA WNN) donated N1.5 million to Slum2School project for the education of 30 girls.
According to ACCA, five trees will educate a child in the project.
The Green Canopy Project, which is also ACCA’s commitment towards Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 13 on Climate Action saw the planting of 100 trees done in partnership with
Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency (LASPARK) at the Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park aimed at mitigating green house effect, global warming, environmental pollution among other environmental challenges.
Reacting to the event, Isibor said, “We have to be more conscious about our planet. We also have to play a role towards ensuring sustainability of our planet. There are different aspects where one can participate in. As you’ve seen, we’re planting a tree in partnership with the Lagos State government through LASPARK and it hasn’t cost us a fortune to do that. I believe that we should just identify the different aspects of the SDGs that we can contribute to.”
General Manager, LASPARK, Adetoon Popoola, commended ACCA for the laudable project and for partnering with it; while encouraging individuals, organisations and governments to emulate the gestures.
She said, “Lagos is one of the world’s Mega cities with rapid urbanisation. In the next couple of years, it is projected to experience extreme population explosion, when this happens, eco systems and the essential natural assets they provide will be depleted. Therefore, it behoves on us to ensure complete restoration of the environment and this can only be achieved through planting as many trees as possible.”
