In line with the United Nations (UN) declaration of January 24th, 2020 as the International Day of Education, the Association of Women in Governance (AWIG) will hold a 1-day awareness programme with focus on the girl child, with a view to drawing state, national and global attention to the importance of educating the girl child.
With the Theme: “Missing Opportunities: The High Cost of Not Educating Girls,” the event will hold at the Murtala Muhammed Airport Schools, Ikeja.
According to the Convener / Chairperson AWIG Mrs. Bridget I. Gold, the association believes that “education is a human right and educating girls is a strategic development policy.”
“The main purpose of this programme is to draw attention to the girl child and the importance and necessity of educating the girl child toward achieving the UN’s aims of sustainable development.
“Failure to educate girls is especially costly because of the relationship between education, child marriage, early child bearing and the risks they entail for young mothers and their children,” Mrs. Gold said.
Some of the major backers of this noble project who have keyed-in into the event include respectable names like Mrs. Shin-Aba Bamidele Victoria, Airport Manager, Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) as Co-Host; Mrs. Otoide Stella Osahuemhome, Principal, Murtala Muhammed Airport Schools, Ikeja as Mother of the Day; Mrs. Adedeji Maruf Abidemi and Mrs. Anyaeche Patience Ugonwa to mention but a few.
The Association of Women in Governance (AWIG) is a composed of a humble group of people looking to make a difference in the life of women and children in Nigeria, and the world at large.
