Nigerian sprinter and Commonwealth gold medalist, Grace Nwokocha, has been provisionally suspended by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) for the presence and use of prohibited substances.

Confiance News gathered from the official Twitter handle of AIU on Sunday.

“The AIU has provisionally suspended Nigerian runner, Nzubechi Grace Nwokocha, for the Presence/Use of Prohibited Substances (Ostarine & Ligandrol) (Article 2.1 and Article 2.2),” It disclosed in a tweet.

Confiance News further learnt that AIU is the independent organisation that manages all threats to the integrity of the sport of athletics.

“A Provisional Suspension is when an Athlete or other Person is suspended temporarily from participating in any competition or activity in Athletics prior to a final decision at a hearing conducted under the World Athletics Anti-Doping Rules or the Integrity Code of Conduct,” AIU stated.

This, however, implies that Nwokocha will be subjected to further hearing, which determine her fate.

Confiance News recalls that Nwokocha won gold along with Tobi Amusan, Rosemary Chukwuma, Joy Udo-Gabriel and Favour Ofili, at the 2022 Commonwealth games.
