…never forget the sacrifice of those who brought us here

By naijaPatriot

For a hundred years, the blood spilled at Lekki toll gate will speak for all the blood that flowed at the hands of those who should protect and preserve life in Nigeria before and after 20/10/2020.

Not by accident, not even by negligence, but by clear-eyed disdain, they cut short young lives for daring to ask that life be held with sanctity. “How dare you demand such a thing? If you don’t come from our loins, or those of our co-travelling marauders’, you risk erasure.”

“Quiet you fools”, they insist. “It is your lot in life to keep quiet while we plunder you. We violate you at will. We reserve the right. The charter of nations grants us the monopoly of violence. Your charter of Human Rights amounts to nothing. Our charter trumps yours.”

But they saw us running and imagined EndSARS was a sprint. They tripped us, watched us land on the asphalt of Lekki toll gate. They observed our broken body and broken spirit. They rubbed their hands in diabolic glee then went back to their business of stifling us.

The man, the nightmare of the iniquitous, Peter Obi. He stands at the vanguard embodying our hope. He’s the pointy end of our awakening. The weld of every nation is that tomorrow is livable. Without hope, a nation is a mere expression. A bomb waiting for a trigger.

But still, fellow Nigerians, however much we fight for today, however much we look to the future, never forget the sacrifice of those who got us here.

We will remember them.

Goodnight.
