How Alapere police division nabbed 80 cultists, armed robbers, kidnappers

Operatives of the Alapere police division, under the Lagos State Police Command have arrested over 80 suspected cultists, many armed robbers and kidnappers within the last three months.

Confiance News gathered from a statement issued by Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of Lagos State Command, Bala Elkana (SP) through the directive of the Commissioner of Police (CP), Hakeem Odumosu.

The report on how the police crushed the criminals in their various hide out within the three months period followed investigations carried out by Confiance News Crime Correspondent who was at Alapere to investigate the police and how it tackles security issues in the area.

According to the report, all the operations were led by divisional police officer (DPO) Alapere division, Gregory Ikpekhia, a Supritendent of Police (SP) who was deployed to the division three months ago by the authorities at the state command headquarters Ikeja in order to fight against criminals who have been giving the command and residents of Alapere and its environs sleepless night.

The clamp down on the miscreants by the police was a consequence of the incident that happened during and after the last general elections which saw the death of no fewer than 10 suspected cultists and innocent citizens.

Further investigation reveal a major incident that occurred on the October 18, 2019 when the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) stormed a popular Mackbrown hotel at church street Alapere and arrested no about 20 cultists after receiving reports from the division of a clash among suspected cultists using dangerous weapons.

The division also busted a criminal black spot at Demurin area of Alapere where criminals were arrested.

The PPRO also disclosed that the kidnappers who were arrested by the division, has since been transferred to the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) Ikeja who have taken over the investigation.

Again, all the cultists arrested have been handed over to the Anti Cultism unit of the Lagos State Command where investigation into the matter continues.

Reacting to the event, some residents who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity, have affirmed the improvement in the security in environment since the coming of the new DPO.
