Social commentator and investor, Morris Money, has reacted to the bail terms, which was put at ₦10 million for each protester, pronounced by a Federal High court on 76 #EndBadGovernance protesters.

Confiance News gathered from his official X handle on Saturday.

Reacting to a post made by an online platform, Sahara Reporters, he said,”If they had 10m each as bail, why would they protest in hunger?”

Confiance News recalls that in August 2024, Nigerians hit the streets in protest against hunger, which were brought about by the harsh economic policies of the current administration of President Bola Tinubu.

According to the report posted by Sahara Reporters, the presiding judge, Justice Obiora Egwuatu, said that the defendants must provide two sureties each.

He noted that one of the sureties must be a civil servant of grade level 15 or higher, with a verifiable address within the court’s jurisdiction, while the other surety must be a parent of the protester involved.

This further sparked reactions as more netiziens took to the comment section of the organisation to pour their indignation against the government and the judge for giving such ruling on the protesters who were mostly minors.

A popular social media influencer, Daniel Regha, said,’Meanwhile: “Court grants lawmaker Ikwechegh N500,000 bail” on the 30th of October, 2024. Only in Nigeria is protest considered a bigger crime than assau!t.’

Another X user said: “10 million naira for kids who protested against hardships and bad governance but N500k for a lawmaker who threatened to make a poor bolt driver disappear. Nigeria is a crime scene!”

Abriel seemed to have a slightly divergent view: “They are charged for treason not protest. The problem is can’ kids be charged with treason?
The lazy government should have sought their sponsors.”
