‎Nigeria is getting serious about child safety in the digital age, and a high-level roundtable in Lagos this week signals the government means business.

‎Confiance News gathered from the official X handle of Nigeria’s Minister for Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani on Monday.

‎He announced that stakeholders from government, civil society, the technology ecosystem, academia, and the wider public will converge in Lagos on Thursday, June 4, 2026, for an invitation-only Roundtable Session on the Protection of Children Online.

‎The session, Confiance News learnt, will tackle some of the most pressing threats children face in digital spaces, including cyberbullying, harmful content, online exploitation, data privacy breaches, and emerging risks tied to artificial intelligence tools.

‎Beyond identifying problems, participants will examine policy and regulatory frameworks tailored to Nigeria’s unique digital landscape, with a focus on evidence-based approaches that uphold children’s rights while expanding their access to online opportunities.

‎The convening comes as Nigeria accelerates efforts to bring more young people into the digital economy, raising urgent questions about how to make that expansion safe, inclusive, and rights-respecting.
