Seplat Energy empowers 50 journalists with media entrepreneurship training

On June 25-26, 2025, Seplat Energy PLC, a leading Nigerian independent energy company, successfully trained 50 journalists specializing in Capital Market, Judiciary, Finance, and Business sectors in Media Entrepreneurship.

Confiance News gathered from the event which was held in Lagos, southwestern Nigeria.

The initiative, organized in collaboration with ELOH Consulting Limited, brought together journalists from print, online, and electronic media platforms.

The programme equipped participants with critical business acumen, strategic principles, and leadership skills to thrive as entrepreneurs and future business leaders. It aimed to empower journalists to build sustainable businesses and deliver impactful results in an evolving media landscape.

The training commenced with a keynote address by Mr. Stanley Opara, Manager of Corporate Communications at Seplat Energy, representing Mrs. Chioma Afe, Director of External Affairs & Social Performance. Opara emphasized the initiative’s goal of fostering leadership, enabling journalists to create sustainable enterprises, and preparing them for greater responsibilities in the business world.

The programme also facilitated interactions between journalists and key stakeholders from Nigeria’s anti-corruption and security agencies, deepening participants’ understanding of governance and operational frameworks.

Expert Facilitators and Guest Speakers

The training featured distinguished facilitators, including:

Professor Pat Utomi, a renowned academic, who discussed whether professionals like journalists can transition into successful entrepreneurs.

Dr. Solomon Avbioroko, former Coca-Cola International director and Lagos Business School lecturer, shared insights on business management and entrepreneurship.

Mr. Olu Onakoya, former Managing Director of Mobil Nigeria, provided perspectives on leadership and corporate governance.

Nnamdi Uwaemelulam, who focused on Media Technology.

Uloma Okoro, who covered developing business models and crafting winning business plans.

The program also included sessions with key figures from Nigeria’s anti-corruption and security agencies, such as:

Mr. Ola Olukoyede, Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu (SAN), Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC).

Mr. Oluwatosin Ajayi, Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS).

These officials engaged participants on critical topics, including combating insecurity and corruption, intelligence gathering, and supporting legal frameworks.

Participants praised Seplat Energy for delivering a well-structured and impactful programme, noting its relevance in equipping them with skills to navigate the changing media landscape and pursue entrepreneurial opportunities.
