Resumé and Curriculum Vitae (CVs) writing requirements and style vary from place to place.
Information required in one country may not be needed in another.
In order to better understand how to write convincing resumés and CVs, immigration consultant, Tunde Omotoye, shared a list of dos and don’ts of writing CVs by location on Twitter.
Confiance News gathered that countries like Canada, UK and US do not require date of birth, gender, religion, local government area, marital status and such personal details from your CV/Resumé.
Below are excerpts from his tweet, which he tagged “Resume/CV by location”:
1. In UK it is called a CV.
2. In general, when applying in the UK it is not advisable to include a picture on your CV.
3. Except Ireland, UK, Netherlands & Sweden other European countries would like a picture on your CV.
4. In Japan, it is called resumé & should be handwritten.
5. In North America, it is called Resumé.
6. In Canada, UK, US you do not include your personal details like DOB (Date of Birth), Gender, Religion etc.
7. In Germany, a photo is required and your personal details are also required. It is also called a resumé.
8. The writing style of a resumé in China is persuasive as opposed to ‘formal’ in other parts of the world.
9. In India, including a photo on resumé is optional, however you aren’t expected to include personal details.
10. In Nigeria & most African countries, it is called a CV.
11. In China, Japan and Australia personal details are required. They’re called resumé.
12. In Sweden, your CV should be 1 – 2 pages long.
13. Your “Education” section comes first in Germany.
14. In UK, after your details & personal statement, your work experience section comes 1st.
15. In France, it is referred to as CV and note the French write their last names first before the first name.
