Why CBN is developing framework for funding COVID-19 vaccine

As part of efforts to fight the coronavirus pandemic, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Nigeria’s apex monetary authority has disclosed that it is developing a framework to provide financial support to aid the fight against Coronavirus disease in the country.

“#CBN develops framework for grants and long-term facilities to researchers, science institutions and biotechnology firms to develop Nigerian Vaccine for Corona Virus.”

“#Emefiele challenges Nigerian Scientists across the world to develop a Nigerian vaccine to check coronavirus,” CBN tweeted.

Moreover, the Central Bank governor, Godwin Emefiele noted that the fund would be released as soon as the vaccine is validated by the health authorities.

“#Emefiele says CBN will support development of vaccine ONCE validated by the Health Authorities,” the bank revealed on Twitter.

Nigeria recorded the index case of the coronavirus pandemic on February 27, 2020, since then it has spread to all the parts of Nigeria with 5,162 confirmed cases except Cross River and Kogi States.

Although scientists globally have been engaged in the research of a vaccine against the COVID-19 disease, there are still no certified vaccine for the disease.

Hence, the need for more funding of the coronavirus vaccine research.
