Dangote Refinery: CBN reacts to debt of Dangote Group

The governor of Nigeria’s apex bank, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN),  Godwin Emefiele has reacted to the debt Dangote Group incurred in the course of building the largest single-train refinery in Africa.

 

Confiance News gathered from the official Twitter handle of the apex on Monday.

 

At the unveiling of the 650,000 barrels-per-day (BPD), Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemical complex in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, on Monday, Emefiele disclosed that the group has offset about $6.3 billion of its outstanding debt.

“CBN Gov, #Emefiele says that the Dangote Group has started repaying some of the commercial loans before the commissioning of the plant; Says the Group’s outstanding debt has dropped from over US$9 billion to US$2.7 billion,” CBN tweeted.

 

Reacting to the commissioning of the complex,

 

Chairman of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, thanked the CBN, banks, NNPC, and other stakeholders for supporting the refinery project.

 

He said, “The CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, moved mountains to ensure the success of the project.”
