Why GOCOP members should maintain ethical online journalism

Members of the association of online publishers charged with maintaining principles of journalism— the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP), have been urged to stay with ethical online journalism.

Confiance News gathered from the President of the association, Maureen Chigbo, who made this call on Wednesday.

Speaking during her welcome address at the 8th national conference of the guild, she noted that online publishers are also entrepreneurs in that space and should act accordingly.

She said: “We must know we are mediapreneurs and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the online media community.”

The conference and Annual General Meeting (AGM) of GOCOP which took place at the Reverton Hotel in Lokoja, Kogi State, also saw the guild extending its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to the community with a visit to some orphanages in Lokoja where food items were given to them.

Chigbo said:”We recommend this to all our corporate members because we must put something aside each year in our different publishing outfits to give back to society.”
