…this is my talent, kid rapper replies

By Chioma Obinagwam with Agency Report

Patrick Ssenyonjo aka Fresh Kid is Uganda’s youngest rapper, seem to be recalcitrant on the orders of the Ugandan Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs, Nakiwala Kiyingi to return to school.

Confiance News gathered from Fresh Kid’s response according to information sourced from the Ugandan on-line.

The directives follows the recent fame of the kid rapper after successfully miming Fik Fameica’s songs.

Fresh Kid has graced several TV stations for interviews at the time when he should be in school and also performed at some events in the night including the Comedy show at 7:00 PM two weeks back.

This trend attracted the interest of the authorities and want the child to stop singing and go back to school.
The Minister speaks out:
“Children between the ages of 1 to 18 are not supposed to be subjected to child labor. It is at this point that I warn all those that are hiring the services of kids in general, especially at night to desist from the act. Fresh Kid should be in school and not performing.”

Reacting to the directive, Fresh kid said, “Minister Nakiwala, I am pleading with you to let me perform because that is how I am getting money that keeps me in school, please let me sing, this is my talent.”

His ‘Banteeka’ video released three weeks back has over 12,000 views on YouTube.

Fresh Kid’s Dad perturbed

“I’m so worried for my son, I was expecting so much from him and in fact, I am already reaping from his talent. We have earned over 800K from his talent in the last two months, but when you stop him from performing this will greatly affect him, he does not want to go back to the village.”

Fresh Kid borrows a leaf from the Ghetto Kids dancing group that is slowly venturing into music after their dancing skills have taken them places. They featured on Eddy Kenzo’s Sitya Loss hit and life has never been the same after that. They featured on French Montana’s video that saw them perform for millions at the BET stage and now, the very Ghetto Kids are going to work with Chris Brown.

Fresh Kid adds that his father is Paul Mutabazi a manicurist while his mother is Namata Madrine, but while he is seven, he does not recall the year he was born because his parents did not tell him.

Asked how he juggles between performances and studies, he simply said, ‘Eyo Tuveeyo’ meaning let’s talk about something else. He went on to say that it is common for children to respond to certain issues like adults.

The issue of asking Fresh Kid to stop performing is now a serious debate on social media. Fresh Kid now has more money than both his parents combined the more reason they want him to keep on doing what he does best.

The seven year old is good at answering questions that even when you try to derail him, he could put you back on track.

Fresh Kid is in Primary 2 and he studies from St. Agness in Kawanda.
