The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has concluded a two-day Policy Review Workshop with industry stakeholders, marking a significant step toward replacing the National Telecommunications Policy (NTP) that has governed the sector since 2000.

‎Confiance News
gathered from a statement posted on the official Facebook page of NCC on Friday.

‎To ensure a thorough and inclusive review, Confiance News reports, participants were organised into working groups that deliberated on ten critical thematic areas: licensing and market access, technical regulation and spectrum management, consumer affairs and online safety, national and international collaboration, emerging technologies, economic regulations, universal access and service, internet and satellite communications, cybersecurity and trust, as well as capacity development and research.

‎The range of topics underscores how dramatically Nigeria’s digital landscape has shifted since the original policy was enacted, a period that has witnessed the explosion of mobile internet, the rise of streaming platforms, the emergence of satellite broadband, and the growing influence of artificial intelligence across communications infrastructure.

NCC opens door for public input on telecom policy

‎With the workshop concluded, the NCC is now turning to the public. The Commission is inviting Nigerians, including industry players, civil society organisations, academics, and everyday citizens, to contribute to the drafting of the revised policy by submitting proposals and memoranda to stakeholders@ncc.gov.ng.
