Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), according to Wikipedia, are members of a drug class that reduces pain, decreases fever, prevents blood clots, and in higher doses, decreases inflammation.

Confiance News, however, gathered from a medical doctor and tweep known as First doctor advised users to seek professional advice before taking the drugs owing to the terrible side effects.

“Before you take a painkiller, always ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice especially if you are;

1. 65+
2. Pregnant
3. Asthmatic
3. Breastfeeding
5. Have allergies
6. Have peptic ulcer
7. Have upper tummy pain.

“The reason is that there are some type of painkillers known as NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) such as aspirin, ibuprofen, diclofenac, naproxen, and others. These drugs are very common but can be super dangerous,” he disclosed.

First Doctor noted that NSAIDs can:

– cause heartburn
– irritate your tummy
– cause severe aches
– make you feel like vomiting
– cause further kidney damage
– aggravate asthma symptoms
– cause severe bleeding from your gut.

“Also, If you’re pregnant up to 28+ weeks, taking NSAIDs can cause premature closure of an important hole in your unborn baby’s heart known as ductus arteriosus. And this can lead to serious problems for your baby,” he cautioned.

With regards to children, he said,

“Even if they don’t have any of the above issues, NEVER give Aspirin to anyone younger than 18 years without your doctor’s prescription.

“DO NOT give your child any NSAID for longer than 10 days without your doctors knowledge.
